10 things to Do and See in Lanzarote
Lanzarote is full of history and places that seem to be taken from a movie. It is one of those places that fall in love with the charm of its people, its weather and its extensive beaches. You have a lot of things to see and do, but visiting beautiful places is not its only attraction.
You also have a lot of leisure activities to spend the day with the family or a special person.
So, if you are one of those people who like to know where you are going when you travel, here we will give you the answers to your questions: What to visit in Lanzarote? And what can I do in Lanzarote?
1. Papagayo Beach:
In the south of Lanzarote, in an area of desert and dryness, there is an impressive number of beaches where you can choose the one you prefer and most of them are accessible by car.
How to get there: This beach is very close to Playa Blanca, just follow the road signs and play good music on your way to one of the most fantastic beaches of Lanzarote.
2. Timanfaya National Park:
One of the most spectacular and unique National Parks in Europe. Many visitors define the sensation as 'being on the moon'. Since it has a high level of protection, tourist visits are restricted to 3 options: Bus route, guided hiking routes or free trail around the park.
Undoubtedly, Lanzarote's number one attraction is Timanfaya National Park, also known as the Fire Mountains, and in particular the Volcanoes Route which starts at the Hilario Islet Visitor Reception Centre (where the Geothermal demonstrations take place).
If you want to avoid a long queue, especially in summer, that can make you wait to get into the park for several hours, it is recommended that you book guided tours of the area by bus as these have a lane that takes them directly to the entrance avoiding unnecessary queues. A place to amaze the eyes of the children on Lanzarote.
3. The Green Lake:
Another one of those places that Lanzarote is proud of. A beautiful beach of black and red sand merging with the blue color of the sea and a green lagoon of colors that seem saturated with Photoshop: The contrast is beautiful.
4. Visit La Graciosa:
La Graciosa is a small Canarian island, considered and called, the best kept secret of the Canary Islands. This is undoubtedly a tourist destination that you cannot miss. If you want to disconnect and feel the beat of the land and the sea, this place is perfect for you.
It can be reached by boat and ferry routes, the journey taking just 20 minutes.
5. Cueva de los Verdes:
Something more native to Lanzarote than the Volcanoes? In Cueva de los Verdes we will get into the bowels of a volcanic tube over 5000 years old. You will find galleries and many rooms at different levels. It is a wonder of nature.
Unfortunately it is not accessible by free access, as it is dangerous.
6. Jameos del Agua:
A place with a long history. It was built by César Manrique and despite the distance, it is still inside the same volcanic tube as Cueva de los Verdes.
In Jameos del Agua there are species of Albino Crab that are unique in the world. Cesar Manrique took advantage of this place to turn it into an architectural work of art full of beauty and harmony.
7. Cesar Manrique Foundation:
A worldwide genious who amazed everyone with his way of performing art, joining nature and architecture in one, resulting in this magnificent architectural work that you can access in one visit.
8. Los Hervideros:
These are very porous volcanic cliffs in which the sea's action and the time passing by have created an infinity of caves and Bufaderos among them. When the sea is calm it is beautiful, however, when it is angry it creates an amazing natural spectacle. It seems to be a difficult and unstable place to access and walk, but a small, short and very simple path has been set up; perfect for observing these natural phenomena at first hand.
9. Mirador del Río:
A viewpoint designed by the greatest architect who has had a strong presence in Canary Islands: Cesar Manrique. This well located viewpoint is at the top of Famara cliff. The views offered by this viewpoint are spectacular, because if you go on a sunny and clear day you can see La Graciosa, as well as Famara beach and its surroundings. It has a system of tickets with schedules, so our recommendation is that you organize your visit a while in advance.
10. Los Charcones Natural Pool:
Very close to Playa Blanca and Los Hervideros, this is a place unknown even to the localss. It is a set of natural pools of different sizes and depths perfect for relaxing and rediscovering yourself.
Tip: You can take some very nice pictures from the place and the right perspective.
